The Red Raiders, picked as a No. 3 seed in the tournament, will face Prairie View A&M in a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday evening at the John Walker Soccer Complex where Tech is 2-0 all-time in NCAA events.
"It's always an honor to be selected," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "We are thrilled to be at home this weekend and get to host Prairie View A&M. I know our players are excited and I'm sure they will be ready to play Friday evening."
Backed by solid wins at Notre Dame, California and Kansas, the Red Raiders closed the regular season as the only team in the country with three road victories (no neutral site) over teams ranked in the top-25 of the ratings percentage index (RPI) poll.
Tech enters the postseason with a 14-3-2 overall record which was good enough to earn the Red Raiders their first ever national seed in the NCAA Championship. The No. 3 national seed allows Tech to potentially avoid facing another seeded opponent, such as No. 2 Florida, until the third round of the tournament.
Prairie View A&M heads to Lubbock after going 11-7-0 during the regular season before eventually finishing second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament this past weekend. Tournament champion Howard was ineligible to advance to the NCAA Championship due to being in its first season as a soccer-only institution in the conference.
Tickets for Friday night's match will go on sale online beginning at 5 p.m. this afternoon and then at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Texas Tech Ticket Office. Prices are set at $7 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 2-12).
Fans interested in purchasing tickets are advised to do so prior to arriving to the match Friday evening for quicker entry into the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tickets can be purchased by calling 806-742-TECH or by visiting the Tech Ticket Office website.
