
Lady Raiders Impress At Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - No. 30 Texas Tech took five of six singles matches from No. 28 Ole Miss and split doubles with No. 4 Georgia during the second day of the Ole Miss Fall Invitational at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Saturday.
Lynn Kiro, a sophomore from Cape Town, South Africa, picked up her second straight win of the event at No. 1 singles, as Kiro, who is ranked No. 83 nationally, upset Ole Miss' No. 72 Julia Jones, 6-3, 6-3. The win improved to 7-2 on the season and 36-8 (81.8 percent) over the last two seasons.
Kiro's teammates followed suit, as sophomore Samantha Czarniak Rego topped Mai El Kamash, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles and freshman Sabrina Federici snagged a straight-set win over Erin Stephens, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5.
Freshman Sarah Dvorak also pulled out another win just one day after defeating Vanderbilt's No. 82 Marie Casares. On Saturday, Dvorak won No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Lady Rebel Arianne Hartono. Dvorak improved to 7-4 on the season.
Freshman Katelyn Jackson added the fifth singles win for the Lady Raiders, as she came from behind to take a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Erin Stephens at No. 4 singles.
The lone loss for Texas Tech came at No. 6, where Ole Miss' Iris Verboven bested Hortense Boscher, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Texas Tech took on one of the top teams in the country in Georgia. Kiro and Dvorak teamed up to snag a huge win at No. 1 doubles, as the Lady Raider tandem won 8-6 against Georgia's duo of Mariana Gould and Ellen Perez.
The Bulldogs answered at No. 2, as Laura Patterson and Hannah King won 8-3 over Texas Tech's Federici and Boscher. No. 3 doubles was not played.
Texas Tech returns to action on Sunday, as the Lady Raiders face Georgia in singles at 9 a.m., followed by doubles at 11:30 a.m. against No. 11 Vanderbilt.
Kiro could have the biggest match of her career, as she will most likely take on Georgia's No. 6 Laura Herring. She is 6-2 for her career against ITA Top 125 players.
