
Lady Raiders Topple No. 11 Vandy In Singles

OXFORD, Miss. - No. 30 Texas Tech opened play in one of the toughest fall events the Lady Raiders have ever participated in, as the Lady Raiders faced No.11 Vanderbilt in singles and No. 28 Ole Miss in doubles at the 2014 Ole Miss Fall Invitational on Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
Texas Tech took four of six singles matches in the hidden duals event, led by freshman Sara Dvorak's upset of No. 82 Marie Casares, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Nationally-ranked sophomore Lynn Kiro won No. 1 singles over Vanderbilt's Ashleigh Antal, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Lady Raider freshman Katelyn Jackson then topped Maggie Leavell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5, followed by Samantha Czarniak Rego's 6-0, 6-2 win over Vandy's Payton Robinette at No. 6.
In the afternoon, Texas Tech did not fare as well in double play, as No. 28 Ole Miss took two of three matches.
Freshmen imports Sabrina Federici and Hortense Boscher won No. 2 doubles over the Lady Rebel tandem of Mai El Kamash and Arianne Hartono, 8-6.
Texas Tech will hit the courts against Ole Miss in singles at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center at 9 a.m., followed by doubles against No. 4 Georgia at 11:30 a.m.
