Red Raiders Top No. 1 Illinois, Finish Third At Tavistock

Sophomore Hannes Ronneblad fired a 2-under, 70 in today's final round to help lead seventh-ranked Texas Tech to a third place finish at the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Lake Nona Country Club in Orlando.
The Red Raiders, ranked in the top 10 in both major golf polls, now have three top five finishes this season, including a win over top-ranked Illinois. Texas Tech finished in third place behind second-ranked Florida State and 12-ranked Vanderbilt. The Red Raiders edged out the top-ranked Illini by three strokes and No. 4 Baylor by 18 strokes.
"I am very proud of the entire team because we played really well," said head coach Greg Sands. "There were certainly a lot of highlights including Guillermo's course record on Sunday and beating the No. 1 team in the country. All in all, we work on having a culture of positive and there was a lot of positive for us the past three days."
As a team, Texas Tech carded a 4-under, 284 in today's final round to maintain its third place position. Second-ranked Florida State fired an impressive 13-under, 275 in the final round to overtake Vanderbilt for the team title. Texas Tech posted round scores of 267, 287 and 294 to finish 26-under, 838.

Senior Clement Sordet tied for ninth overall at 8-under, 208 while freshman Guillermo Pereira tied for 13th at 5-under, 211.
Texas Tech closes out the fall portion of its 2014 schedule next week (Oct. 27-28) at the Royal Oaks Invitational in Dallas.

Final Round Highlights
- Texas Tech defeated eight teams ranked in the Top 50: (1) Illinois, (4) Baylor, (14) New Mexico, (17) California, (30), UNLV, (33) Georgia, (47) North Florida and (50) Arkansas.
- Pereira and Sordet birdied the ninth hole in all three rounds of the tournament.
- The Red Raiders had the second-lowest par 4 scoring average at 3.94, and nine-under for the tournament.
- Over the 54-hole course, the Red Raiders accumulated 64 birdies, the second most for the tournament. Of the 64 birdies by the Red Raiders, 12 were made on the ninth hole of the course.
- Ronneblad finished the tournament with the fourth-lowest par 4 scoring average at 3.83 and five under for the tournament. Ronneblad also finished with the fourth-lowest par 3 scoring average at 2.83, and two-under for the tournament.
- Wes Artac and Sordet finished the tournament with the third-lowest par 5 scoring average at 4.58 and five-under for the tournament.
- Sordet had 40 pars over the 54-hole course, the fourth most in the tournament.
- Ronneblad and Pereira finished the tournament with 16 birdies, the third most in the tournament.
