COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore Jolan Cailleau advanced to the Consolation 64 final to close out play at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Monday.
Cailleau, a native of Belgium, defaulted the Consolation 64 final against Texas A&M's Frankie Colunga due to injury.
Cailleau topped Rice's Jamie Malik in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1, and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-3 over Texas' John Mee to reach the final on Monday.
"Jolan really battled all weekend," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "I am really proud of his effort to reach the consolation final."
It's Cailleau's best performance since going 5-0 and winning the Flight B title at the Texas Fall Invitational last season. Cailleau went 4-1 at the event.
Soares, who is seeded sixth and ranked No. 35 nationally, fell in the Main Draw Quarterfinals to 11th-seeded and No. 112 Antonio Lupieri of Baylor, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
"Felipe had his chances, but came up short," added Siegel. "Overall, it was a good showing for us, but now we will regroup and head back here in four days."
Texas Tech returns to College Station this weekend for the Texas A&M Challenge at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
