Dvorak Falls In Consolation Final At Texas Regional

WACO, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Sarah Dvorak was on pace to become the first Lady Raider to win the consolation singles title at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Sunday.
But she came just two points short of her goal, as the native of Hawai'i, fell to No. 88 Simona Parajova of TCU, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) in the consolation final.
Dvorak battled with the Parajova to a 4-4 tie, as neither player recorded a break. But then Parajova broke Dvorak and took a 5-4 lead in the first set. Parajova then held serve and took the first set, 6-4.
The Texas Tech freshman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set. Dvorak then extended the lead to 4-1 and 5-2 before getting the break and the second set.
The match was decided on the third set tiebreaker, where Parajova and Dvorak battled to a 3-3 tie to start and were tied 6-6, before Parajova took the lead 7-6 and extended it to 8-6 and 9-7. Dvorak pulled within one, 9-8, before Parajova served for the match.
Dvorak marched into the final with hard-fought, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Rice's Allison Ho in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. She then faced Rice's Lindsey Hodge in the semifinals, dispatching the Owl in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the final.
Seeded 15th in the event, Dvorak lost her opening match in the Round of 64 in three sets. She then reeled off four straight wins to reach the final. Dvorak is now 6-4 on the season.
The Lady Raiders return to action on Friday in Oxford, Miss., as they begin play in the Ole Miss Invitational.
