Dojas, Soares Pace Texas Tech On First Day Of Regionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas Tech's Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares led four Red Raiders into the Round of 32 during singles competition at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Saturday.
Soares, who is seeded sixth and ranked No. 43, held off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Guillaume Rauseo's upset big in the Round of 64, as the Texas Tech junior pulled out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. Dojas has little trouble to advance to the Round of 32, after a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3 win over Baylor's Diego Casa.
Also advancing to the Round of 32 were Alexandru Buzelan and Francisco Zambon. Buzelan dropped A&M-Corpus Christi's Ricado Mayagoitia, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while Zambon cruised past UTSA's Mark Ginting, 6-4, 6-1.
The day started with four Red Raiders in the Round of 128 - Evan Nix, Jolan Cailleau,Hunter Holman and Nicholas Melott. Only Cailleau pulled out the first round victory, as the sophomore from Belgium toppled Trevor Johnson of TCU, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Cailleau was not as lucky in the Round of 64, as he lost a hard-fought three-set match to Baylor's Vincent Schneider, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6.
In doubles, the Red Raiders' four tandem split their day, as the teams of Cailleau and Melott and Dojas and Soares each picked up wins. Cailleau and Melott held off Srikar Alla and Gustavo Gonzalez of Rice, 8-7 (7-4). Dojas and Soares, who are seeded third and ranked No. 35, dropped Diego Casa and Mark Ginting of UTSA, 8-2.
The Red Raiders return to action on Sunday at 9 a.m. with four players still alive in the main draw and another four in consolation bracket of the event.
