Federici, Kiro Advance To Round of 32 at Texas Regionals

WACO, Texas - Sabrina Federici and Lynn Kiro advanced to the Round of 32 during singles competition at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center on Thursday.
Federici, who is unseeded in the event, toppled Abilene Christian's Ansley Boarman in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, in the Round of 128. The Lancashire, England, native then dispatched SMU's Holly Verner, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to reach the Round of 32. Federici is now 6-0 after winning her bracket at the Purdue Invitational last week.
Kiro, a sophomore who earned the No. 9 ranking in the event, rolled past Karen Martinez, 6-2, 6-1, into the Round of 32. Kiro, who is ranked No. 83 nationally, improved to 5-1 on the season and 34-7 over the last two seasons.
Texas Tech's Sarah Dvorak was not as lucky, as the field' No. 15 seed fell in the first round. Dvorak lost to Texas' Ryann Foster, 6-7 (0-7), 6-4, 6-3.
The Lady Raiders return to action on Friday in Waco. Federici and Kiro return to action in the main draw round of 32 at 10:15 a.m. Dvorak continues in the consolation round of 32 at 2 p.m. In doubles. Kiro and Federici begin play in the main draw round of 32 on Friday.
