Dojas-Soares Advance To Main Draw At ITA All-American

Texas Tech's Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas advanced to the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships.

TULSA, Okla. - Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares cruised to a straight-set win to earn a qualifier spot in the main draw of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championship at the Case Tennis Center.
Dojas and Soares, who were seeded eighth in the qualifying round of the event, cruised past South Florida's Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts, 6-3, 6-4, to earn one of eight qualifying spots into the main draw.
"The guys played a very complete match today," said assistant coach James Wilson. "They served well, and were the more aggressive team. Hopefully, Felipe can continue this momentum tomorrow as he begins with singles in the morning."
The Texas Tech tandem, which are ranked 35th nationally, improved to 3-0 on the season with the win. Dojas and Soares are the first Red Raider duo to reach the main draw in doubles of the All-American since 2011, when Gonzalo Escobar and Vitor Manzini reached the round of 32 of the event.
Dojas and Soares will look to be just the third doubles team in school history to win in the main doubles draw. Escobar and Manzini advanced to the Round of 16 in 2010 and the tandem of Christian Rojmar and Bojan Szumanski, who went 3-1 in the 2007 All-American and advanced to the tournament semifinals.
Dojas and Soares return to action on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT, when the pair will take on No. 20 Carlos Benito and Eduardo Segura of Georgia Tech at the Case Tennis Center in the Round of 32.
Soares, who is ranked No. 43, will also begin singles play on Thursday, as the Texas Tech junior faces No. 20 Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee at 9:30 a.m. CT.
