TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES
The loss marked Texas Tech's fourth straight in series openers. The Red Raiders are just 1-4 in series-opening games so far this season.
The loss marked the third loss for the Red Raiders this year when scoring six or more runs and just the eighth all-time under Shanon Hays when doing so. Texas Tech was previously 100-7 when scoring six or more runs under Hays entering the series.
Texas Tech's six-run sixth marked its most runs in an inning since plating seven in the third on March 11 against Troy. The Red Raiders went on to win that game, 15-0, in five innings.
Texas' two-run first inning marked the 13th time where an opposing team has scored in the opening frame this year. Tech is now 7-6 in those games.
The Red Raiders dropped to 4-6 on the year in two-run games and 18-17 all-time under Shanon Hays as well.
The contest was Texas Tech's sixth so far against a ranked team this season. The Red Raiders, who are 0-6 in those games, are now 18-40 against top-25 teams under Hays.
The loss marked Texas Tech's seventh-straight at home, the longest streak of the Shanon Hays era.
Shanon Hays
The loss dropped Hays to 264-89 overall and 150-73 while at Texas Tech. He is now 1-7 all-time against Texas.
Mikey Kenney
Kenney went 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-run double in the sixth. It was Kenney's 11th double of the year and 10th time with two or more RBI which matches Adriana Perez for the team high.
Kenney now has 41 RBI on the year, breaking her previous career high of 40 that was set during her 2010 freshman season. The performance gives her 143 RBI for her career, one shy of Sandy James' current school record.
Kenney also moved into third all-time in career at-bats at Texas Tech as she now has 644, two more than Ashley Parker's total from the 2004-07 seasons.
Sydnie Tapia
Tapia finished with two RBI for the second-straight game as she also drove in a pair of runs in last Sunday's series finale at Iowa State. It is her seventh multiple-RBI performance this year.
Samantha Camello
Camello recorded a hit for the fifth-straight game as she is batting .400 (6-for-15) during that stretch. Camello has also hit safely in nine of 13 conference games this year as well.
