TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES The win extended Texas Tech's season-opening winning streak to eight straight, which matches the program's previous best start in 2003 when the Red Raiders also opened with eight-straight victories.
With the win, Texas Tech continues to control its series with North Texas as the Red Raiders are now 21-1 all-time against the Mean Green and 2-0 in matches played in Lubbock.
The match marked North Texas' first trip to Lubbock since being swept in three sets on Sept. 14, 1996.
HEAD COACH Don Flora
The win improved Texas Tech to 22-2 under head coach Don Flora in non-conference matches, including a 7-0 mark when playing at home.
With the win, Flora is now 292-76 as a collegiate head coach and 23-17 while at Texas Tech.
For the third-straight match, Don Flora went with a veteran starting lineup in seniors Miara Cave and Tory Vaughan, junior Aubree Piper, sophomores Breeann David and Rachel Brummitt, and then freshmen Emily Ruetter and Lydia McKay. It was the sixth time this year Tech has used three or more newcomers in the starting rotation.
Emily Ruetter
Emily Ruetter turned in her best performance of the season with a season-high 54 assists to go along with another season-high 20 digs. It marked the most assists for a Tech setter since Karlyn Meyers also recorded 54 on Nov. 15 last year at San Jose State.
Ruetter's double-double was her team-leading fourth of the season. The freshman is now second on the team with 73 digs on the season.
Breeann David
Breeann David was one kill off her career high as she finished with 16 in the match to go along with 16 digs. Her 16 kills mark a new season-high, topping her 14-kill performance last weekend against San Jose State.
David finished with a double-double for the second-consecutive match as she also finished with 14 kills and 12 digs against Northwestern State. It was the third double-double of her career as well.
Aubree Piper
Aubree Piper matched her career high with 13 kills while also totaling a season-high .524 hitting percentage. Piper also totaled 13 kills on Oct. 13, 2010 against Colorado.
