LONDON - Former Red Raider Michael Mathieu helped guide the Bahamian 4x400 relay team to the top qualifying time Thursday at the 2012 London Olympics.
Mathieu, running the third leg of the relay, and the Bahamians finished first in their heat and first overall with a season-best time of 2:58.87. The finals of the men's 4x400 relay are scheduled for Friday at 3:20 p.m. (CT).
The three-time All-American at Texas Tech was a member of the 2008 Bahamian 4x400 relay team that won silver at the Beijing Olympics with a time of 2:58.03.
Mathieu advanced to the semifinals of the men's 200-meter dash this week in London before being disqualified for a false-start on Wednesday.
At Tech, Mathieu helped to set the school record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:01.69 during the 2005 season. The record still stands today.
