LUBBOCK, Texas - Game times for Texas Tech's first-ever road midweek series at Rice were announced late Monday evening. The Red Raiders and Owls will play at 6:30 p.m. in the series opener on Tuesday, April 16, with the series concluding on Wednesday, April 17 with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Reckling Park in Houston.
Texas Tech and Rice have an all-time series that dates back to 1958 and includes 110 games. The Red Raiders lead the series, 56-54, while Rice has held the advantage lately with 14 consecutive victories.
This year marks the first-ever non-conference midweek series between the Red Raiders and Owls and also the first time for Tech to travel to Reckling Park - Home of the Owls - for a regular season game since the last season of the Southwest Conference in 1996.
Since that time, Tech has played Rice on 13 occasions, but five have been in NCAA Tournament play (two games in Lubbock, three games at Rice), seven meetings have come at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston and they have meet once in Corpus Christi, Texas (2007).
In fact, the last time Texas Tech has played at Rice for a regular season game was on April 6, 1996 during Tech's 8-1 victory.
Texas Tech will open its 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 15 with Opening Day against Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
