Texas Tech Golf Opens Season With Win at Carmel Cup

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team opened the season with a 19-13 win after traveling to Monterey, Calif. to take on Vanderbilt in the inaugural Carmel Cup.
The 54-hole event included two rounds played at the world renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links and one round at Spyglass Hill, both of which are par-72 courses.
Tech took the victory after winning five points in the first round, six points in the second round and finishing the event with eight points in the final round.
Freshman Clement Sordet led the Red Raiders firing a 67 in the third round and winning all his matches in the medal-match play format. Sordet, a native of Charbonnières, France, also took medalist honors after posting a three-round score of 209.
Matias Dominguez and Henry Todd, both freshmen, each contributed three points to the win after shooting 220 and 232, respectively.
The Commodores were led by Trey DelGreco who shot a three-over 219 while taking three points from the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders will continue the fall season on Sept. 19 when they head to Rhode Island for the Adams Cup of Newport.
