The win marked the second-straight year that Texas Tech has overcame an opening game loss to advance to the regional championship game.
After two wins Saturday, the Red Raiders are 9-7 all-time in regional games, including a 4-3 mark under head coach Shanon Hays.
Despite being the fifth game of the regional, the game marked the first in the regional where there was not a shutout.
With the win, Texas Tech now leads the overall series between the two schools, 20-10, while the record at neural sites is even again at 3-3 all-time.
Texas Tech improved to 33-3 on the year when scoring before its opponent. The Red Raiders are also 29-2 now when leading after two innings and 17-0 when leading after six innings.
Sandy James' fifth inning home run that put Tech ahead 5-3 was the sophomore's 16th of the year, which breaks the Tech single-season record. The record was previously held by teammate Mikey Kenney (2010) and Kim Martinez (1997).
Brittany Talley's save was her second of the day as she also pitched the final three innings of a 7-0 victory over Harvard. The freshman now has three saves on the season, matching fellow freshman Kermitria Ward for the team lead.
Emily Bledsoe went 3-for-4 at the plate, marking her 16th multiple-hit game of the season. It was also the fourth time she had three hits in a game.
Raven Richardson finished the game a single shy of the cycle as she went 3-for-4 at the plate, her 12th multiple-hit game of the season. The junior also drove in two runs for Tech and scored twice. Richardson finished 4-for-7 in both games Saturday.
Ashley Brokeshoulder picked up her first victory since March 6 when Texas Tech defeated Dayton, 10-0. Brokeshoulder pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up one run off two hits and three walks.
