Texas Tech is now only 1-3 in first games of the postseason. Tech's only win came in 1999 when the Red Raiders defeated South Carolina, 1-0, in the Fresno Regional.
The Red Raiders are now 7-7 all-time in regional games as Tech has dropped its last two postseason games dating back to last year's trip to the Stanford Regional.
Texas Tech had been run-ruled in a postseason game only once before in school history as Arizona defeated the Red Raiders, 8-0, over six innings on May 18, 2001.
Despite dropping the opening game a year ago, Texas Tech was able to win two-straight games over UC Davis and host Stanford to advance to the regional championship game against Hawaii, who eventually defeated the Red Raiders, 7-1.
The shutout was only the third against Texas Tech this season and the fourth all-time in postseason games.
Despite the loss, Texas Tech still maintains a 19-10 lead in the all-time series between the two schools. New Mexico State now leads 3-2 in games played at neutral sites.
The loss was Texas Tech's first this season at a neutral site. The Red Raiders were previously 11-0 on the year.
Texas Tech's three errors in the game marked its most since also committing three in the second game of a midweek doubleheader against Baylor on April 6.
Texas Tech's first eight outs at the plate all came on the ground as Emily Bledsoe's strikeout to end the third inning was the first to not on the ground.
Bledsoe did not reach base for only the fourth time all season as the junior came into the game having reached base in 51 of 54 games.
Brittany Talley's 2.1 innings pitched marked her shortest start since April 2 when she was only able to record one out in a loss to Oklahoma. Talley's five runs surrendered were her most since giving up six to Texas on April 23.
