
Tech Falls to No. 18 Oklahoma

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team had its eight-match win streak snapped as it fell to No. 18 Oklahoma, 6-1 in Norman, Okla.
"I thought we lost to a very good Oklahoma team," head coach Todd Petty said after the match. "I have a lot of respect for coach (David) Mullins and his program. I think it was closer than the 6-1 score and we were close on the doubles point and in all of the singles matches. We need to do a better job on Sunday dealing with atmosphere of being on the road."
Oklahoma, 12-2, 4-0, took the first point of the match sweeping the doubles point and won the first three singles matches to clinch the match. Tech is now 12-4 and 2-1 in conference play.
At the No. 1 doubles match, Samantha Adams and Kelsy Garland fell to Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Alice Radu, 8-6. It is the first Big 12 loss for Adams and Garland.
Caroline Starck and Nikki Sanders had their eight-match win streak snapped playing in the No. 2 doubles match. The duo lost 8-6, to Oklahoma's Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie.
At the No. 3 doubles match Elizabeth Ullathorne and Haley Fournier battled into a tie-break with Okahoma's xx Eckel and Marie-Pier Huet. Ullathonre and Fournier lost 8-7 (7-3) and had their nine-match streak broke as well.
Adams put Tech on the board with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, victory over Radu at the No. 2 singles match. Adams pushes her record to 11-2 and is on a seven-match win streak.
Ullathorne battled No. 95 ranked Constantinescu but lost the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Starck fell to Ritchie 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 single match.
Huet beat Garland 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 singles match and it snaps Garland's six-match win streak. Garland is now 11-2 in singles play.
Fournier and Lancaster were the last two on the court. Fournier fought back in the second set after losing the first. Lancaster won the match (6-3, 6-7, 1-0) in the third-set tiebreak.
Sanders one the first set against Kalashnikova but lost on a second set tiebreak. Kalashnikova took the No. 6 match 6-2, 7-6, 1-0.
Tech will travel to Stillwater, Okla., to take on Oklahoma State on Sun., March 27th at 1 p.m.
