Tech Takes Down Oklahoma State, 4-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team battled the weather to take down Oklahoma State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla.
"I thought we played with an extreme amount of heart to get back into the match," head coach Todd Petty said after the match. "Sam Adams had to win to force the double point and considering the conditions I thought they played extremely hard. We really played good doubles all the way through. I couldn't be prouder of the way this team played and how they didn't quit."
The single matches were contested first and took an early 2-0 lead in the match. Nikkis Sanders got the Lady Raiders on the board beating Sarah Meghoufel, 6-0, 6-3. Elizabeth Ullathorne won the second point for Tech beating Nataliya Shatovskaya, 6-3, 6-4.
Oklahoma State (4-10, 1-3) took wins in the next three matches to take a 3-2 lead. Kelsy Garland fell to C.C. Sardinha, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 4 singles match. The match was then tied after Kanyapat Narattana beat Haley Fournier, 6-2, 7-5. Malika Rose gave the lead to OSU winning the No. 3 singles match over Caroine Starck 6-4, 6-4.
Tech was on the verge of being beat before Samantha Adams had a comeback win. The freshman fell behind losing the first set before rolling in the last two sets to tie the match. Adams beat Sasha Belova 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Adams extends her win streak to eight in singles play.
Tech turned the heat on in the doubles matches and won all three to clinch the match. Adams and Garland beat Belova and Shatkovskaya 8-5 first followed by a victory Fournier and Ullathorne over Sardinha and Leyla Simmons 8-4. Sanders and Starck completed the doubles sweep with a 8-6 win over Narattana and Rose.
Tech pushes it overall record to 13-4 and 3-1 in conference play. The next match will be Fri., April 1 at 12 p.m. against Texas at the McLeod Tennis Complex.
