October 22, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Tech's Caroline Starck advanced to the quarterfinals in singles and doubles at the ITA Texas Regionals held on the campus of Texas Christian University on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders started the day with five players still in action in the remaining field of 32, but only Starck remained as the field was cut to eight.
"Caroline was outstanding today," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "She has responded well, despite being unseeded in the event. I cannot be happier with her performance or the overall team's performance. I think we are playing mature and learning a lot about ourselves."
In doubles play, Starck teamed with Nikki Sanders to upend Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram of TCU, 8-6 and advance to the final eight.
Play resumes Sunday with Starck and Sanders playing doubles at 10 a.m. Starck then plays her quarterfinal singles match at 12:30 p.m.
