Lady Raiders Complete First Day at OU

LUBBOCk, TX - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad completed their first day of play at the OU Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma, advancing a singles player and a doubles team.
Sophomore Elizabeth Ullathorne advanced in singles as she defeated Portland's Valeska Hoath, 6-2, 6-3. Elizabeth faces UNT's Nadia Lee on Saturday.
Ullathorne joined freshman Nikki Sanders and downed Nathalia Garay and Veronique Luksich from Arkansas-Little Rock in their first of two doubles matches of the day, 8-0. In their second doubles match, Ullathorne and Sanders defeated OU's duo of Maria Kalashnikova and Brittany Parks, 8-4, to advance to the semi-finals of Doubles B bracket. Ullathorne and Sanders meet Lee and Joubert of UNT on Sunday.
Kelsy Garland and Samantha Adams lost their opening doubles match to DePaul's Kelsey Lawson and Katarina Milinkovic, 8-6. In their consolation doubles match, Garland and Adams defeated Wichita State's Raphaela Zotter and Lutfiana Budiharto, 8-5. On Sunday, Tech's duo will face the winner of the OU/Portland doubles match which is still to be played.
In other singles action, Kelsy Garland lost her match to Tulsa's Anastasia Erofeeva, 7-5, 6-4. Garland faces UNT's Irina Paraschiv in her first of two singles matches on Saturday.
Nikki Sanders fell in her singles match to Arkansas's Kelsey Sundaram, 6-2, 6-2, and will play OSU's Sasha Belova in her first singles match on Saturday morning.
After winning her first set 7-6, Samantha Adams dropped the next two sets to Maria Kalashnikova of Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-2. Adams opens singles play on Saturday against UTA's Natalia Mayuk.
Tournament organizers have scheduled four singles matches and three doubles matches for each player throughout the weekend. On Friday, each player had a singles match and two doubles matches. Each player will have two singles matches on Saturday followed by one singles match and one doubles match on Sunday.
