
Lady Raiders Conclude First Day at RCCI

LUBBOCK, TX - The first day of competition at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, concluded with three Texas Tech players winning their opening round matches after the squad won just one of eight singles matches last year.
Playing in her first match as a Lady Raider, Haley Fournier lost her first set to Fernanda Perrotta (Penn State) 6-4, won the second set 6-1, and then gained the match win with a 10-8 edge in the super tiebreaker. Haley then met No. 5 seed Anamika Bhargava (Pepperdine) in the next round. The freshman from Leawood, Kansas, won the first set 6-3, fell in the second set by the same score, and lost the super tiebreaker, 11-9.
Sophomore Sandra Dynka won her opening round match against Maria Martinez (UTA) 6-4, 4-6, and 10-6 in the super tiebreaker. In the next round, Sandra lost to No. 3 seed Arianna Colffer (Pepperdine) 6-4, 6-4. Colffer is currently ranked 66th nationally.
Sophomore Caroline Starck won her opening round match against Megan Moore (Pepperdine) 6-1, 6-0. Caroline lost in the next round to the No. 2 tournament seed Rebekka Hanle (Rice), 6-3, 6-4. Hanle is currently ranked 57th nationally.
After gaining a bye in the first round, sophomore Lorena Aviles won her first set against Christi Liles (Texas A&M) 6-2, lost the second set 7-6, and fell in the super tiebreaker 10-6.
The Lady Raiders are in Norman, Oklahoma, next week for the OU invitational.
