Tech Golf Sits In Ninth Place Headed Into Final Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team moved up two spots on the leaderboard following second round action Saturday afternoon as they now sit in ninth place heading into tomorrow's final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
Senior Matt Smith turned in his best performance so far this season as he posted a one-under 71 in the second round. He now sits in a tie for 18th place, just behind teammate Nils Floren who sits in a tie for 15th place. Floren recorded his second-straight 72 for the tournament as he looks to break into the top-10 in tomorrow's finale.
Fellow senior Will Griffin shot the fourth-best score of the day in the tournament as he turned in a 69 in the second round of play, climbing the board 18 spots as he now sits in a tie for 26th place.
Redshirt freshman Chandler Rusk rebounded from yesterday's nine-over 81 with an even-par 72 to move up the board. Senior Sergio Franky rounded out the scoring for the Red Raiders as he finished with an 81.
Clemson claimed the top spot from Alabama following the second round while Alabama now sits in second place by one stroke followed by Georgia Tech in the third slot. Auburn, who sat in third following the opening round, fell down to the sixth spot where they now are tied with Chattanooga. Final round action is slated to begin tomorrow morning.
