HOUSTON, Texas - Ole Miss opened with an early lead and never looked back en route to a 3-0 victory over Texas Tech Saturday morning in the second match of the Rice Invitational at Tudor Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Red Raiders fall to 0-2 early in the year, while the Rebels (1-1) will be possibly looking to claim the tournament title when it faces host Rice in the finale later in the evening.
Thanks to a .500 hitting percentage for the Rebels, Tech was once again unable to get off to a fast start in the opening set, trailing early 12-6. Amanda Dowdy posted six kills in the set, but the Rebels continued their accurate hitting with a .500 percentage en route to a 25-18 opening-set win.
Tech could not mount any momentum in either of the other two sets as Ole Miss cruised to consecutive victories, 25-16 and 25-9. Dowdy led all players with 14 kills, while Jackie Vincent posted 8 digs at libero.
The Red Raiders close the Rice Tournament later this afternoon against UTSA. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
