OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - Texas Tech has completed its third and final round here at the 2010 NCAA Golf Championships in Ooltewah, Tenn. Texas Tech shot an impressive 8-under par this morning and has climbed all the way to 11th place at 3-over. Senior Chris Ward and junior Matt Smith each fired rounds of 67 today to finish 5-under for the day and were just one stroke away from tying the course record.
Coming into the tournament, the course record was 67 set by Tiger Woods back in 1996 when he won the NCAA individual championship. The current course record is 66 and was set today by Oregon State Diego Velasquez in the round with Tech's Tyler Weworksi.
Texas Tech will now watch the leaderboard during the afternoon round and hope for some help as only eight teams advance to match play that gets underway on Friday.
