LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Chris Ward became the first Red Raider since 1999 to win the Texas Amateur Championship Sunday afternoon at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas as he finished three-under par in the final round to clinch the title.
Ward, a PING second team All-American selection, fired a four-under 68 in today's final round to finish the tournament with a 270 four-round total, five strokes ahead of Jordan Russell of College Station, Texas.
Senior Red Raider Will Griffin moved up one spot in the standings following the final round as he finished in a tie for eighth place overall, finishing the tournament two-under par, nine strokes behind fellow teammate Ward.
The last time a Tech golfer won the Texas Amateur Championship was in 1999 when former Red Raider and Monterey graduate Robert McKinney won the coveted title.
