EUGENE, Ore. - The Texas Tech track program picked up six All-American awards and the Red Raiders sit in seventh place after the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The men picked up big points in the 400M hurdles as it was the only school to put two student-athletes in the final of the event. Bryce Brown ran a 50.11 to place fourth overall and earn his second All-American honor at Tech. Mason was seventh with a 51.46 to garner his first All-American honor.
It marks the first All-American honor in the 400M hurdles since Bryan Scott did it in 2007. It also keeps the streak alive of having a Tech hurdler earn All-American honor since 2005.
Terra Evans earned All-American by placing fifth in the 100M. She ran an 11.27 in the race and it gives her two All-American awards for the meet. Evan's All-American honor in the 100M is the first for a Lady Raider in the event.
Junior Gilbert Limo making his third appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3000M steeplechase scored four big points for the Red Raiders. He ran an 8:43.70 to become the Red Raiders first All-American in the 3000M steeplechase.
Senior Darrell Roddick made up for his shortcomings in triple jump by scoring in the high jump. Roddick cleared 7'-1.50" (2.17M) to finish tied for seventh place. It is his first All-American honor of his career.
Freshman Shade Weygandt was one spot away from placing in the women's pole vault as she finished in ninth place overall. She cleared 13'-9.25" (4.20M) but was named All-American for being one of the top eight American's in the event.
The Lady Raiders are currently tied for 35th with four points and the Red Raiders are in seventh with 18.50 points.
Tech begins competition tomorrow 9:30 a.m. PST with the men's long jump and coverage will be carried live on CBS.
