Lamb and Weygandt Advance to NCAA Outdoor Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Two freshmen highlighted the first day for Texas Tech at the NCAA West Preliminary held at the Mike A. Myers in Austin, Texas as Bryce Lamb and Shade Weygandt qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Weygandt will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as she placed in the top 12 in the NCAA West Preliminary. Weygandt placed 11th as she cleared 13'-7.25" (4.15M) to advance to the meet held this year in Eugene, Ore.

Lamb had some suspense going into his final jump of the first round as he had fouled his first two attempts. His final attempt put him in the finals at 25'-3.25" (7.70M) and advanced him to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

All three Red Raiders advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 400M hurdles. Jamele Mason had the third-fastest time in the first round with a 50.74 while teammate Bryce Brown was the fourth with a 50.76. Zach Plinario was the 16th qualifier as he crossed the line in 51.56.

Terra Evans ran the fourth-fastest time in the first round of the 100M with an 11.47. She will run the quarterfinal round tomorrow at 6:15 p.m.

A Red Raider and two Lady Raiders advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400M. Latoy Williams earned an automatic qualifying spot placing running a 46.57 and placing third in his heat. Erica Alexander and Taylor Evans both made it to the quarterfinals on the women's side. Alexander got in with her time of 54.26 and Evans earned an automatic berth placing second in her heat with a season-best time of 53.55.

The Lady Raiders added one more to the quarterfinal in the 800M. Purity Biwott ran a season-best time of 2:07.76 placing second in her heat. She was the 10th fastest time in the first round.

The second day of the 2010 NCAA West Preliminary starts tomorrow at 12 p.m. with the women's discus. Live results can be followed at www.texassports.com or fan can follow via Twitter @techathletics.
