LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech incoming tennis freshman, Samantha Adams, teamed with her younger brother to win the mixed doubles Class 5A UIL State Championships at the World of Tennis at Lakeway last week.
"I'm so excited right now," said Samantha after the finals. "We've been building up to this all year. I was nervous, but excited, this morning and I knew we were playing well coming into the finals."
Samantha had been paired with her older sister the previous two seasons in girls doubles, finishing as state runner-ups in both years and she competed with an older brother, in mixed doubles in 2007.
"I'm so close to my family and to share this with my brother was awesome. It was so great to get a chance to compete with him. I won't ever get a chance to do that again in any other situation. That just made it really special."
The New Braunfels, Texas, native also helped lead her team to the 2009, 2008, and 2007 State Team Tennis Championships.
Samantha is a 5-star recruit according to the latest TennisRecruiting.net information. This outstanding player is currently ranked sixth in Texas and is listed 53rd in the most recent national rankings.
"It is so nice to go out a champion," said the new Lady Raider.
Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty remarked, "We're really pleased Samantha and her brother claimed the state title. All of us are excited about the future success for Texas Tech women's tennis."
