OKOLIE PLACES SECOND IN HAMMER THROW AT BIG 12'S

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 19 Lady Raiders got its first points of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Columbia, Mo., after Ozie Okolie scored eight points in the hammer throw.
Okolie the senior saved her best throw of the day for the last. Her throw of 60.48 (198'-05") was good for second for a big eight points. Kansas' Alena Krechyk won the women's hammer throw.
Michelle Guzman was the first competitor of the day for Tech. The junior ran a 36:04.57 to finish in 11th. Iowa State's Lisa Koll won the women's 10,000M for the fourth-straight year.
The Red Raiders had one competitor on the day. Nick Green is currently eighth after the first day of the decathlon. He scored his most points in the first event of the day in the 100M. He ran an 11.07 to score 745 points and then long jumped 6.55M (21'-6") for 709 points. Green's third event was the shot put where he threw 12.29M (40'-4") and followed it up by clearing 1.95M (6'-4.75") in the high jump. In the final event of the day the junior ran a 52.19 in the 400M.
Kelsey Lloyd was disqualified in the first event of the heptathlon. She was disqualified for knocking a hurdle over with her hand and chose to focus on the high jump and withdrew from the heptathlon.
Iowa State leads the women's race after day one with 32 points. The Lady Raiders are in fourth place with eight points. Nebraska is tops on the men's side with 25 points. The Red Raiders have yet to score a point.
Day two of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships starts tomorrow with the decathlon at 10 a.m. Fans can watch live streaming footage of the meet at www.big12sports.com.
