
Lady Raiders Meet Tigers in First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (10-11, 5-6 Big 12) clash with the Missouri Tigers (6-16, 1-10 Big 12) in the first round of the Big 12 Tennis Championships on Thursday, April 29, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
All-session passes are available at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center at $10 for adults and $5 for youth, while day passes are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. The women's championship takes place April 29 through May 2, with four first-round matches starting on Thursday.
The Lady Raiders enter the Big 12 Championships as the No. 6 seed while the Tigers are the 11th-seed. The winner of the Texas Tech-Missouri match will take on No. 3 Nebraska in the quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
Thursday's match with Missouri will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. In conference play, Texas Tech defeated Missouri on April 18. After losing the doubles point, the Lady Raiders stormed back to win at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 singles for the 5-2 victory at the McLeod Tennis Center.
In their final conference match of the season, Texas Tech fell at Kansas State on Sunday afternoon, 5-2.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after winning each of the doubles matches. Elizabeth Ullathorne and Sandra Dynka defeated Antea Huljev and Karla at No. 1 doubles, 9-7. Kelsy Garland and Caroline Starck followed with a No.2 doubles win over Ana Gomez-Aleman and Carmen Borau-Ramos, 9-8. Stefanie Peana and Lorena Aviles combined to give Texas Tech a sweep in the doubles play with their 9-8 (7-4) win over Nina Sertic and Petra Chuda at the No. 3 spot.
Kansas State tied the match at 1-1 with Antea Huljev's, 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 1 singles over Sandra Dynka.
Each of the remaining five singles matches took three sets to determine a winner with KSU prevailing in four of those matches.
Junior Kelsy Garland gained Texas Tech's other point in the match with her 3-set win at No. 2 singles over Ana Gomez-Aleman, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Kelsy closed out conference play with victories in her last three matches.
At No. 3 singles, Karla Bonacic stopped Elizabeth Ullathorne, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Nina Sertic edged Caroline Starck at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Carmen Borau-Ramos downed Lorena Aviles at the fifth spot, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. In the last singles match of the day, Petra Chuda topped Stefanie Peana, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
