LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raider track team earned high praise from Track and Field News after the squad was ranked No. 9 in the recruiting rankings, as announced by the publication.
Tech has already seen the benefits of its recruiting class as Rose Tanui and Caroline Jepleting helped lead the Lady Raider cross country team to a third-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November. Tanui came in fifth at the national meet en route to All-America honors.
Another name that is expected to come in and contribute quickly is South Plains transfer Kelley Closse. She won three NJCAA titles in the indoor shot put, weight throw and outdoor shot put.
Tara Thomas, a transfer from Miami, will bring added depth to the sprints as she carries a career best of 11.89 in the 100M.
Freshman newcomers Richanda Hall and Tiffany Hines have brought more talent as well to the sprinters. Hines was a 5A Texas state champion in the 100M and ran on successful 4x100M and 4x400m relays with current Red Raider Candace Jackson. Hall was the 4A Texas state champion in the 100M and ran with Hall and Jackson in summer track.
The Lady Raider track team was one of two Big 12 schools recognized in the annual Track and Field News recruiting rankings. Texas was ranked No. 2.
