Red Raider Profile - Jerad McCrummen
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Jerad McCrummen (RHP - 6-1, 195 - R/R -So./TR - Mesquite, Texas/N. Mesquite/Western Texas College)
Jerad McCrummen's first start during the annual Red and Black Series helped give the Black Team the momentum in the series, which they ended up winning with three victories in the five-game series. McCrummen delivered an 8-7 victory where he pitched four innings while allowing only one hit and two runs with five strikeouts.
McCrummen is like several of the Red Raider newcomers, entering Tech as a sophomore after playing just one year of junior college. McCrummen's one season at Western Texas College was a success as the right-hander ranked in several of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference's top 10 pitching categories.
He went 8-4 with four complete games and a 4.79 ERA in 62.0 innings pitched. McCrummen notched 57 strikeouts while allowing only 17 walks in 13 appearances.
McCrummen ranked fourth in the league in wins, fifth in strikeouts per nine innings (8.27) and 10th in strikeouts. In addition, he recorded a season-high nine strikeouts against New Mexico Military.
"Jerad is a sophomore with one year of junior college under his belt," Dan Spencer said. "He had a great year last year last year at Western Texas. We aren't sure yet how to use him, but he will be in a role somewhere. He has a good arm. He has good stuff. We are very excited with the fact he is just a sophomore that he is going to be here at least two years. That is huge because of the way we turn guys over to the draft."
McCrummen pitched a total of 6.0 innings in the Red and Black Series with a 4.67 ERA with seven strikeouts in two appearances.
