Red Raider Profile - Jamen Parten
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Jamen Parten (RHP - 6-2, 180 - R/R -So./TR - Plano, Texas/Plano/North Central Texas College)
Jamen Parten will make his NCAA Division I debut this spring after leading North Central Texas College's pitching staff last year with 68.1 innings pitched. Parten will look for a repeat performance this season as he and several newcomers are trying to earn a spot in the Red Raiders' pitching rotation and in the Tech bullpen.
Parten, just a sophomore, won four games for the Lions last season with a 4.35 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 24 walks allowed.
The previous year, his senior season in 2009, Parten dominated at Plano Senior High School (Plano, Texas) with 99 strikeouts, a 0.60 ERA in 65 innings pitched. He was honored by being named the Dallas/Fort Worth Area Pitcher of the Year and was tabbed 5A Texas All-State third team. He was also awarded first team all-district and first team all-area his senior season.
"We think that Jamen Parten is going to throw a lot of innings for us this year," head coach Dan Spencer said. "We are not sure if it will be as a starter or as a reliever, but he has a lot of skill. He has a very good breaking ball and a very good change. He hasn't had much weight training in his life prior to here and has already put on 14 pounds since being here, which has helped his stuff."
Parten made one start for the Red Team during the annual Texas Tech Red & Black Series where he threw two innings and recorded two strikeouts.
