Red Raider Profile - Cory Bafidis
LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Cory Bafidis (LHP - 5-11, 180 - L/L - RS So./TR - Smithson Valley, Texas/Smithson Valley/Midland JC)
Cory Bafidis enters his sophomore year at Texas Tech after playing one season of junior-college baseball at Midland Junior College in 2010. He made 11 appearances - primarily as a reliever - while notching 16.0 innings pitched with a 1-1 record. In addition, four of his outings he recorded multiple strikeouts.
Bafidis was a high school standout at Smithson Valley HS while earning all-district honors his final two seasons. He helped lead his high school team to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. He also lettered two years in football as the starting cornerback.
Following his junior year of high school, Bafidis competed in the prestigious Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif., with the Washington Nationals. The following year, he played with the Kansas City Royals Fall Scout Team. Bafidis began his senior year of high school as a Perfect Game Preseason Honorable Mention High School All-American.
"I think that Cory is going to be a very good Red Raider," head coach Dan Spencer said. "I don't know exactly when it will happen, but his fall was up and down and there are some mechanical things that we are addressing right now. He has great stuff. His ball really moves. He has a quick arm and a breaking ball. We are adding the change up now in the winter."
Bafidis threw 0.2 innings during the Texas Tech annual Red & Black Series where he didn't allow a run while giving up one base hit and one walk for the Black Team.
