LUBBOCK, TX - Kelsy Garland and Samantha Adams, No. 5 doubles prequalifying seed in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in California, won their opening match on Sunday and are unable to advance after losing their second match.
The doubles tandem opened Sunday's match with an 8-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe's pair, Claire Clark and Monica Winkel.
"Samantha and Kelsy won the first 11 points to start their second match on Sunday before their opponents were able to claim a point, " stated coach Todd Petty. "The USC players fought back and won the match, 8-4."
Coach Petty also added, "I know they're disappointed with their last match, but Kelsy and Samantha played very solid tennis against strong competition, which will help both of them as we continue to prepare for the rest of the season and especially Big 12 play."
The Riviera Women's ITA All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2010-2011 collegiate tennis season.
The tournament's six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying matches began Saturday with play continuing until champions are determined on October 10. The tournament is hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California, for the 26th consecutive year.
