
Lady Raiders Capture 8 Wins in First Round Matches

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team had a perfect start to their eight singles matches at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships in Waco on Friday morning with each player winning their match.
Kelsy Garland stopped UNT's Amy Joubert, 6-4, 6-2. Samantha Adams won her match over UTA's Daiana Negreanu, 6-3, 6-3. Nikki Sanders followed with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Dione Sanders from Houston. Haley Fournier defeated UT's Caroline Larsson, 6-4, 6-0. Caroline Starck downed Ksenia Berestetska of SFA, 6-3, 6-2. Sandra Dynka stopped Paula Dinuta of UNT, 6-4, 7-5. Lorena Aviles needed three sets for her win over Paola Montuenga, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Lindsey Tristan played the first match of her Tech Texas career and defeated Kayla Stevenson of SHSU, 6-3, 6-4.
Coach Todd Petty remarked, "It's really great to see their hard work reaping exciting benefits. Each player has created a ground swell of momentum as they begin their second round matches this afternoon."
The second round of singles will then take place at 11:30 a.m.
Doubles action will begin on Saturday, Oct. 23, with the first round at 9 a.m. and the second round beginning at 11 a.m. Aviles and Dynka, Fournier and Tristan, and Adams and Garland begin doubles play at 9:00 a.m. with Sanders and Starck taking the courts at 10:15 a.m.
The singles and doubles champions from the NCAA Division I USTA/ITA Regional Championships will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 4-7, at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, New York. Columbia University will serve as the tournament host.
