LUBBOCK, TX - Kelsy Garland and Samantha Adams, Texas Tech women's tennis duo, won their prequalifying opening match and advance to play Sunday morning in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in California.
The No. 5 seed doubles pair defeated Anteaters Courtney Byron and Kristina Smith from UC-Irvine, 8-5.
"Kelsy and Samantha got off to a good start in the match and led 7-2," announced Todd Petty. "They were calm and collected from the first serve to the final point."
The Texas Tech tandem must win three rounds to advance to the qualifying doubles.
The Riviera Women's ITA All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2010-2011 collegiate tennis season.
The tournament includes six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying matches beginning Saturday. The tournament is hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California, for the 26th consecutive year.
