Women's Tennis Rolls at Lobo Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad continued their fall season at the Lobo Invitational on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico with two flights of singles matches and one flight of doubles matches today.
The Lady Raiders won 13 of their 14 matches played on Friday at the Linda Estes Tennis complex. Elizabeth Ullathorne, Natalie Leitch, Caroline Starck, Stefanie Peana, and Kerryn Potgieter each won two singles matches on the first day of competition. Kelsey Garland won her opening and lost in the afternoon's match. Lorena Aviles and Mia Matuszak each won their only singles match of the day and each also received a bye.
Sophomore Natalie Leitch defeated the University of Denver's Sophia Bergner, 6-1 and 6-4. Bergner was recently crowned Colorado Open Champion when she defeated teammate and previous Colorado Open Champion, Ute Schnoy. Natalie also won her second singles match when she defeated Stephanie Jasper (Boise State), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
Freshman Caroline Starck's opponent in the first flight was Ute Schnoy. The Lady Raider from Williams Bay, Wisconsin, defeated her University of Denver opponent, 7-5 and 6-1. Caroline then topped New Mexico's Manumea Durie, 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles action, Natalie Leitch and Stefanie Peana combined for their third win of the day when they defeated New Mexico's Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva-Forte, 8-6. Elizabeth Ullathorne and Kelsy Garland lost their match Boise State's Pietzuch and Frej, 8-5. Caroline Starck and Kerryn Potgieter dropped their match to Arizona's Masschelein and Huh, 8-6. Lorena Aviles and Mia Matuszak received a bye.
Players return to the courts tomorrow morning for doubles play beginning at 9:30 AM Mountain Time. Singles play will begin following the completion of all the doubles matches.
