Lady Raiders Conclude Midland Trip

The second day of competition at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas concluded with the Lady Raiders dropping two quarterfinal doubles matches while Caroline Starck won an independent dual match at the Racquet Club.
The Lady Raiders had two of their four doubles teams advance from Friday's round of 32. Stephanie Peana and Natalie Leitch won their match over Hertzberg and Babanova (TCU), 8-4. The freshman duo of Sandra Dynka and Lorena Aviles won the tiebreaker 8-6, to defeat Rice and Oates of Pepperdine, 8-7.
In quarterfinal play on Saturday, Nebraska's Madeleine Geibert and Jennifer Holmberg defeated Texas Tech's Stephanie Peana and Natalie Leitch, 8-5.
Texas Tech's second doubles team of Sandra Dynka and Lorena Aviles ended their match with Rice's Varsha Shiva-Shankar and Rebecca Lin after Sandra rolled an ankle and was unable to continue playing. Rice had been leading 4-1.
In a dual match-up independent from the tournament draw at Midland's Racquet Club, Texas Tech's Caroline Starck defeated Nebraska's Jennifer Holmberg. The freshman from Wisconsin earned her first collegiate victory, 7-6, 6-4. While not part of tournament play, Caroline's match is recognized in her season record by the ITA.
