
Tech Lands Three on Regoinal Award List

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track program earned three post-season awards on Monday as head coach Wes Kittley, assistant coach Dion Miller and student-athlete Gil Roberts were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kittley led the Lady Raiders to its best finish at the conference meet this past season and it earned him the Mountain Region Women's Coach of the Year. The team scored 111 points finishing in second and turned around to place second at the Midwest Regional Championships as well. Tech currently sits third in the Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award Standings, and Kittley has led the program to top ten finishes at the outdoor meet in the last two years.
Miller has had two of the top runners in the nation this season and was named the Mountain Region Men's Assistant of the Year. He guided Gil Roberts to a Big 12 Championship and Midwest Regional Championship in the 400 meters as well as the second fastest time in Division I at 44.97. Miller also led the 4x400 meter relay to the third-fastest time in school history and in the nation. He also coached Omo Osaghae to the second-fastest time in the 110 meter hurdles at 13.42. Miller was also named the Mountain's Region Men's Indoor Assistant of the Year.
Roberts added Big 12 Champion and Midwest Regional Champion in the 400 meters to his list of accolades this season as well as the Mountain Regional Men's Track Athlete of the Year. The sophomore has the second-fastest time in the nation at an altitude converted 44.97. The three-time All-American is also a key member of the Red Raiders' 4x400 meter relay that has the third-fastest time in the nation headed into the NCAA Outdoor Championships. It is Roberts' second consecutive honor as he was also named the Mountain's Region Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Tech begins competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Wed., June 10, in Fayetteville, Ark.
