LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech announced Wednesday that it has renamed the track complex the Terry and Linda Fuller Track, while the area housing the track and baseball's Dan Law Field will be named the R.P. "Bob" Fuller Athletic Complex.
The two venues will be referred to as the Terry and Linda Fuller Track at R.P. "Bob" Fuller Athletic Complex and Dan Law Field at R.P. "Bob" Fuller Athletic Complex. The name changes reflect the contributions of two families that have had dramatic impacts on the athletic program in the past through today.
"Terry and Linda Fuller have been very generous in their support of our track and field program and our athletic program overall, and Bob Fuller was one of our most ardent supporters during the Southwest Conference days," Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance said. "This is a small token of our appreciation to both families, and we are proud to have facilities named after each."
Formerly known as the R.P Fuller Track, the Terry and Linda Fuller Track will host its first event this weekend as the Big 12 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held Friday through Sunday. The track recently underwent extensive renovations, creating one of the premier outdoor facilities in the country. Highlighting the changes to the facility are the installation of a Mondo track, the same type of track surface used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the addition of sprint lanes in the infield.
Inductees into the Hall of Legacy in 2008, Terry and Linda Fuller have made a permanent mark on the athletic program at Texas Tech with their support and contributions. The Fullers have endowed scholarships in football, track and field, men's golf and men's basketball. Additionally, they supported the renovation of the Gerald "Corky" Oglesby Strength and Conditioning Center in the Athletic Training Center, which provides training for several Texas Tech sport programs. Terry is the current president of the Red Raider Club and a longtime supporter of the Red Raider Scholarship Fund.
Bob Fuller was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Honor in 1979 and was a past president and member of the Red Raider Club Executive Committee. A lifelong supporter of the Red and Black, Fuller made an indelible mark on the athletic program. Texas Tech honored him for his lifetime of support in 1983, naming the track complex after him.
There is no relation between the two families.
