
Tech Has 26 Athletes Named to Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program had 26 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Tech was led on the list by distance runners Matt Davidson and Addison LeMaster, who were among 15 conference athletes to maintain a 4.0 grade point average.
On the men's side, Eric Ayala, Paden Behrens, Davidson, Cory Higgins, Gilbert Limo, Nathan Lowry, Omo Osaghae and Chuck Zaala were all named to the first team, while Logan Culotta, Travon Chadwick-Hill, Brett McDaniel and Gil Roberts were honored as second team recipients.
The Lady Raiders were led by Amanda Alley, Asia Diaz, Veronica DiLullo, Jessie Gibbs, Kearci Jobe, Patience Knight, LeMaster, Ozie Okolie, Tori Smith and Kaci Westervelt on the first team. Christina Graham, Michelle Guzman, Gladys Kipsang and Sally Kipyego rounded out the list on the second team.
Student-athletes named to the first team have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better either cumulatively or over the two previous semesters, while second team members consist on GPAs between 3.00 and 3.19. Nominated student-athletes also must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible.
Tech will host the 2009 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in school history, Friday through Sunday at the newly-renovated Terry and Linda Fuller Track at Bob Fuller Athletic Complex.
