LUBBOCK, Texas-Texas Tech softball (15-39/3-13) heads to Stillwater, Okla., to face the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State (31-19/6-10) it its final Big 12 Conference regular season series. Game times are scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, and at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
Freshmen Combine For Game-Winner Against Nebraska
Freshmen Emily Bledsoe and Holley Gentsch combined for the game-winning run and RBI against Nebraska in game two of the doubleheader. Bledsoe started off the sixth inning with a double off the top of the wall, and Gentsch brought her home on a single up the middle to score the game-winning run.
The True Utility Player
Senior Alex Watkins boasts a .301 batting average and also has a team-high .503 slugging percentage. She has also fanned 125 hitters this year alone in the circle for Tech, good for eighth-best in a career with the Red Raiders, and eighth-best in the Big 12. Watkins' 11 doubles on the year also places her fifth-best in the conference.
Eimen Continues To Execute
Senior Elizabeth Eimen continues to execute, as she leads the Red Raiders hitting .359 with 55 hits and 17 RBIs. Eimen picked up a hit, and an RBI over the weekend against Nebraska. In the Big 12, Eimen ranks tenth in individual batting and fifth in hits.
Hamada and Drewry Provide Strong Defensive Presence
Freshman Ashley Hamada has provided a strong presence in right-field this year for the Red Raiders. Hamada has only committed two errors in 43 starts for Texas Tech. Fellow freshman Stephanie Drewry has provided a similar strong presence in left-field committing just three errors in 49 starts this year.
Scouting Oklahoma State
The Cowgirls enter the weekend series with an overall record of 31-19 and 6-10 in the Big 12. Most recently, Oklahoma State dropped a game to No. 15 Oklahoma, 6-0. The Cowgirls are led by Mariah Gearhart batting .344 with 52 hits and 42 runs scored. Alysia Hamilton is close behind batting .331 with 48 hits and 45 RBIs. In the circle, Anna Whiddon leads the Cowgirls with an overall record of 16-12 and an ERA of 2.34. Last year in Lubbock, OSU and Tech split the series one game apiece.
