Tech Drops 4-3 Decision to Nebraska

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech's women tennis squad dropped another close match 4-3 to Nebraska Wednesday morning in Norman, Okla. It is the sixth time this year that the Lady Raiders have fallen by a score of 4-3.
Tech Raiders (9-13, 4-7) started off strong as they walked away from the doubles matches up 1-0 over the Huskers.
Tech's No. 2 duo of Kerryn Potgieter and Stefanie Peana defeated Nebraska's Madeleine Geibert and Jennifer Holmberg, 8-4., Tech's top duo of Samantha van der Drift and Kelsy Garland took out Jana Albers and Wiveca Swarting, 8-5. The win of van der Drift and Garland moves them to 13-8 on the year and 6-4 in Big 12 Conference action and secured the doubles point for the Lady Raiders.
The third match was a close battle between Tech's Natalie Leitch and Simone Templeton and the Huskers' Stephanie Evans and Mary Weatherholt. Evans and Weatherholt took the match, 8-6, ending Leitch and Templeton's three-match win streak in doubles play.
The singles matches played out in a back-and-forth manner, in the No. 1 match the Huskers' Weatherholt handled Tech's van der Drift in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The win marked the first point of the day for Nebraska.
In the No. 4 slot, the Lady Raiders' Leitch notched the second point of the day as she blew by Swarting in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Leitch moves to a 12-3 record in the fourth spot for the Lady Raiders on the season with an 8-3 record in conference play. The win also moves her win streak to five straight.
In the third slot, Templeton fell to Albers in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, grabbing the second point of the day for Nebraska. The singles play continued to go back and forth as Tech's No. 5 Peana battled deep into the match to come out on top of Holmberg in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. The win for the Lady Raiders was the third of the day and meant only one more to go to close out the victory against the Huskers.
Garland fought hard against Geibert forcing the match to three sets but came up just short. Geibert proved to be too much as she knocked Garland off, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. The win for the Huskers tied the match at 3-3 with just one match remaining. The No. 6 spot proved to be a good one as it was taken to three sets. The Huskers' Evans came out on top over Kyla Coleman, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the victory for Nebraska.
The Lady Raiders return to action Thursday at the Big 12 Championships as the No. 7 seed as they take on No. 10 seed Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. in Norman, Okla.
