TECH DROPS 4-3 MATCH TO OKLAHOMA STATE

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad fell at Oklahoma State 4-3 in a close match. It is the team's fifth loss when the match is decided by one point.
The Lady Raiders (9-11, 4-5) jumped out to an early lead in the doubles matches as Simone Templeton and Natalie Leitch beat Maryna Tkachenko and Sasha Belova 8-6 in the No. 3 position. Oklahoma State took advantage of the next two matches to win the doubles point.
The No. 58 duo of Samantha van der Drift and Kelsy Garland dropped a close 8-6 decision in the No. 1 duo spot to JoAnne Karaitiana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya. Oklahoma State clinched the doubles point as Kerryn Potgieter and Stefanie Peana was defeated by Iryna Khatsko and Alisa Buslaieva.
Tech fought back in singles play as Leitch evened the score at one all as she beat Tkachenko 6-2, 6-1. The Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead as Templeton dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Khatsko. The Lady Raiders took the lead back in the very next match. No. 1 van der Drift beat Karaitiana 6-4, 6-2.
The match had its third lead change of the match as Peana lost to Belova 6-0, 7-6 (0) in the No. 5 match. Garland evened the score in the No. position for Tech as Shatkovshava had to retire due to injury in the second set down 6-3.
The final point came down to the No. 6 match and Oklahoma State's Buslaieva edged out Potgieter 6-2, 7-5.
Tech now heads to Norman to face Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m.
