LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track program picked up the Outdoor Track Facility of the Year Award given by the American Sports Builders Association after renovating the Terry and Linda Fuller Track at the Bob Fuller Sports Complex this past year.
The award was given in recognition of excellence in design and construction with the design and submittal of application for the award by the Robert Cohen Co., LLC. Tech hosted the Big 12 Outdoor Championships after spending $2 million on renovating the facility.
The Super X Mondo surface, which is the same surface used at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was put down as well as sprint lanes, pole vault pits and long and triple jump pits middle of the track. A fence and walkway were put around the entire track to give fans a few from anywhere.
"I think the award is a tremendous honor for our facility to be selected as the top in the world by the American Sports Builders Association," head coach Wes Kittley said." The Super X Mondo is the top surface in the world and for our facility to be the top in the nation says wonders about our program and the dedication to the track program."
