MANHATTAN, Kan. - Allison Mayfield pounded 14 kills and Nicole Tate spread the ball effectively for 34 assists in leading Kansas to a three-set sweep of the Red Raiders. Win the win the Jayhawks improve to 16-13, 8-11, while Tech drops to 2-26, 0-19 with only one match remaining in its 2009 season.
It was a lethargic, slow start for Tech which didn't effectively compete in any set and lost, 25-8, 25-15 and 25-10 in one of its poorest showings of the season. Amanda Dowdy and Miara Cave tallied five kills on the evening, but the pair also had nine errors. Hayley Ball dropped four kills (and committed only two errors) and setter Karlyn Meyers chipped in on offense with three kills and no errors in six attempts. The sophomore dished 15 assists and scooped up three digs in a solid effort. Tech's normally strong net game was held to only two team blocks by the attack of Tate and the Jayhawks' offense.
Texas Tech next hosts K-State in its final match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11:45 a.m., still looking for an elusive Big 12 win. Pre-match ceremonies will feature a "Senior Day" celebration prior to the first serve of the Red Raiders three departing seniors: Hayley Ball, Jenn Goehry and Caroline Witte.
