LUBBOCK, Texas - The third day of competition at the 2009 Wilson / ITA Regional Championships in Waco concluded with Natalie Leitch among the competitors in the consolation bracket.
Elizabeth Ullathorne opened play on Sunday afternoon in the round of 32 by taking the first set from the tournament's No. 3 seed, Aeriel Ellis of Texas, 6-4. Ellis came back to win the next two sets, 6-4 and 6-0 to stall Elizabeth's upset bid. Liz bounced back in her second match and defeated Sophie Quist from SMU, 6-0 and 6-2.
Natalie Leitch downed UNT's Amy Joubert in her opening match 6-0 and 6-2. In her second match, Natalie topped UT's Sarah Lancaster 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the consolation bracket where she will take on Lamar's Mariayeni Guttierrez on Monday morning.
Lorena Aviles lost her opening match to UT's Caroline Larsson, 6-3, 6-4 before winning her next match by default over Roxana Enica of SFA.
Sandra Dynka dropped her first match 6-1 and 6-2 to UT's Carlene Leyden and later fell to Bryony Hunter of Houston in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6.
Kelsy Garland lost her first match to UTA's Monika Hadigerova 6-0 and 6-4 before stopping Maggie Mello of UT in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, and 7-6.
In doubles action, the Lady Raiders gained their only win of the day when Kerryn Potgieter and Caroline Starck defeated UTEP's Carolina Deluca and Marina Deluca, 8-2. The tournament concludes on Tuesday, October 20.
