LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech student athletic trainer Brandon Hawk has been awarded one of five summer internships with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and will begin his duties in mid-June.
Hawk, a native of Abilene and a 2005 graduate of Abilene Cooper High School, will spend the summer with the five-time world champion Dallas Cowboys as an athletic training intern. He will serve under head athletic trainer Jim Maurer and associate athletic trainers Britt Brown and Greg Gaither.
He spent the 2007-08 school year as the student athletic trainer for baseball under the supervision of head baseball trainer Shawn Lindsey.
"I am really excited that Brandon is going to get this opportunity, "said Lindsey. "These internship positions are highly coveted and it is a great honor for him and the athletic training program here at Texas Tech."
He will first report to duty at Valley Ranch in Dallas when the veterans report for mini-camp on June 16 and will wrap up the camp on June 19th. The Cowboys will then hold their annual full-team training camp in Oxnard, Calif., July 20 through Aug. 9. Hawk will also have the opportunity to work three preseason games against San Diego, Denver and Houston.
"Brandon is one of those young athletic trainers that you know every coach and every athlete are going to want around, "said Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays. "He cares about the well being of every athlete and I know our players certainly responded well to him all year long. He is going to do very well this summer and the Dallas Cowboys are lucky to have him."
Brandon will be one of three Red Raiders in the Dallas Cowboy organization this summer joining former Tech All-American linebacker Zach Thomas and wide receiver Danny Amendola.
