Texas Tech now leads the all-time series against Baylor 71-63 and holds a 45-18 advantage against the Bears in Lubbock. Tech has now won 12 of the last 13 contests at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech won its first Big 12 series-opening game tonight after coming into the evening with an 0-8 record in opening games.
Junior right-hander Zach Stewart, making just his third start of the season, established season-high's in innings pitched (8.0) and strikeouts (seven). He was pulled with no outs in the top of the ninth after tossing 130 pitches.
Junior right-fielder Roger Kieschnick now owns 16 home runs on the season after blasting two in tonight's game. Tonight's game marked his first multiple home run game since hitting two against New Mexico back on Feb. 27, 2007. He has now turned in four-straight multiple hit games (leads the team with 21 total) also for the first time since the 2007 season.
Junior designated hitter Chris Richburg extended his current hit streak to 13 games by going 1-for-4 with an RBI. His 13-game streak is also a career high surpassing a nine-game streak back in 2005.
Junior second baseman Willie Rueda has now hit safely in 20 of Tech's last 23 games and has totaled 13 multiple-hit games during that stretch. He went 2-for-5 tonight with a double.
